One day in Dubrovnik

You hear Dubrovnik, you think city walls, Game of Thrones, Sun?

Well when I decided to visit for a day the first two were very true. The last… Not so much.
Our apartment was about 20minutes from the old town- mainly because it was close to the new port where we had to be early the next day.

Lots of narrow streets

After arriving in old town, we wandered the town, getting a feel for the narrow, criss-crossing backstreets before deciding it was time to walk the walls. What we hadn’t factored in was the rain and the price. In our Lonely Planet guide book the price was given at 20KN, when we did it, it was100KN. Bear in mind there are probably parts you could do without buying a ticket but since we wanted to go round the whole thing , decided to purchase one. And boy did it rain, but I guess it set the scene for some gloomy pictures of fortresses.

After our walk around the walls (and a coffee break) we explored the town some more before finally deciding it was time to conquer our second fortress of the trip.
Considering out last trek to Kotor fortress, this was a lot easier then I expected and our ticket to the city walls allowed us in here as well.

Made famous by the Game of Thrones TV series, the scene was set by the person standing next to us humming the theme tune

Dinner definitely helped Dubrovnik secure it’s place in my heart. Looking on trip advisor, I was delighted to find a vegetarian restaurant within the city walls, Nishta. It’s recommended that you book, and I’d have to agree. There are four tables outside and about the same inside , and by 7pm they were all full. Lots of walk ins were left disappointed by the news that the next free slot was at 9.30pm that night.
I didn’t have a chance to take a photo of the food (I was too busy eating) but my main was delicious. After living on carbs the last couple of weeks, I decided to go with a starter or vegetable pakora and for a main, panfried tofu covered in coconut and served with couscous and vegetables. It was really good, the couscous had just the right amount of curry flavour and even better, the tofu actually had a taste! Ad decided to go for the indiastic, you generally can’t go wrong with curry.
So with full bellies, we decided that since the rain had stopped we’d burn off our dinners by walking the 20minutes home. Wishful thinking… By the time we got home there was no need to take a shower, we really just needed a towel.

See I'm really good at the drowned rat look!
